Description
Baptisia, or False Indigo is a stunning addition to the flower garden. This cultivar is shorter and fits beautifully into many home gardens. It is known for its unique pale purple blooms and compact, rounded habit. It is prized by cut flower growers for its flowers, foliage and large black seedpods. Blooms in early summer. Prefers well drained soil through the winter.
Baptisia forms a long taproot which makes it drought resistant but also very hard to move so plan accordingly.
Baptisia is a host plant for Wild Indigo Duskywing, Frosted Elfin, Orange Sulphur, Clouded Sulphur, and Eastern Tailed-Blue butterflies, providing the necessary food source for their larvae.
