Description
Baptisia, or False Indigo is a stunning addition to the flower garden. It forms a large plant, up to 4 feet tall. These plants are grown from seed and the flowers could vary from shades of purple, blue, yellow and white. Flowers in late spring and early summer. It is prized by cut flower growers for its flowers, foliage and large black seedpods.
Baptisia forms a long taproot which makes it drought resistant but also very hard to move so plan accordingly.
Baptisia are host plants for Wild Indigo Duskywing, Frosted Elfin, Orange Sulphur, Clouded Sulphur, and Eastern Tailed-Blue butterflies, providing the necessary food source for their larvae.
