Description
The pale purple blooms of this nativar are dramatic in the flower border. Blooms mid-late summer and is often covered in native bees and butterflies. Very tough and long-lasting once established. Found in open woods, moist meadows and treelines.
Its hundreds of tiny blooms are a pollinator favorite. This photo was taken at the Mt. Cuba Center in late June. Every flower spike was covered in bees. Cultivar of a Native Plant
Veronicastrum virginicum (Culver’s Root) serves as a host plant for the Buckeye Butterfly, with its larvae feeding on the leaves, and also supports specialist moths like the Culver’s Root Borer Moth, while its nectar attracts many other butterflies and pollinators.
