Description
Tall, red flowers cover this tall perennial in late summer and fall. Often founds in wet areas and streambanks, this plant prefers moist soils. Lobelia cardinalis (cardinal flower) acts as a larval host plant for several moths, including the Pink-washed Looper moth, Red-banded Leafroller moth, and the Greater Black-letter Dart moth. While primarily known as a nectar source for Swallowtail butterflies and hummingbirds, it supports a variety of pollinators. North American Native Plant.
